Reflecting on Culture
Ronald Feldman Fine Arts, New York, NY
Jan 8 - Feb 5, 2005
“The greatest future includes most of us becoming more fully human at no one’s burden. Seeing others as the joy of life not its threat of loss is the greatest future.” – Edwin Schlossberg
Each of us and every institution uses the word culture differently. The difference in definitions and the opportunity to define culture is the focus of this exhibition. Featured in the exhibition are fifty new drawings on highly polished aluminum, which use a variety of media and methods to write and draw on the surface.
Reflecting Culture
Culture to be shared
Between us
Culture breaks
Community above scarcity
Our culture exists within us and between
Outside culture connects
Seen through words
We develop internally
We develop internally (Diptych)
Culture
Memory is as culture
Making memory
We evolve externally [green]
We grow to become part of culture we make
More than one and many
Culture defends the center from the edge
We evolve externally [horizontal]
We evolve externally (diptych)
Making assumes intention for culture
Unconscious attention unravels culture
Drawing through ourselves culture beauty
Making objects [horizontal]
Making objects [vertical]
Culture starving for fairness
Between us 1
Now
Community over scarcity
As we
Culture become inside out
We develop internal culture
Nervously
Genetically
Structurally
Energetically
Chemically
Memory makes me
Through dreams
Through ideas
Through feelings
Words weave culture
We evolve external culture
Collaborate for excellence
Evil at the extremes
Emotionally
Socially
Physically
Dynamically
Intellectually
Gathering objects us
Remember live without
Beauty insight
Through tools
Through images
Through patterns
Through stories
Through maps
Through structures
Through sounds
Culture striving for fairness 1
