“Nothing can be made in pieces once in then by gazing through along continued parts reaching if to almost with of dreams held on for breaks inside the skin of time.” – Edwin Schlossberg

Although each series incorporates different techniques, they all focus on a change in the viewer’s perception initiated by the senses of touch or sight. This exhibition incorporated three distinct series:
Warm Memories, Touching Changes, and Flashes Insight.
Lithographs with hand additions of Liquid Crystal solution, the works of Warm Memories change color as the viewer touches the Liquid Crystal component. The drawings of Touching Changes also modulate in response to contact with the Liquid Crystal. The pieces in the series Flash Insight react to light: silkscreen on photo-phorescent vinyl captures shadows, created by a strobe light, on the work itself.
Touching Changes served as the basis for later works incorporating Liquid Crystal. The 1990 Barbara B. Mann Performing Arts Hall Art Wall represented an enlarged version of the 1981 Touching Changes works. Elements of this series were also included in the 1988 WillWear t-shirt designed by Ed Schlossberg.
The properties of Liquid Crystal that allow it to react to touch gradually diminish over time and ultimately disappear, particularly if the Liquid Crystal is exposed to sunlight for a prolonged period of time. The works in Touching Changes series no longer react. These works have been removed from their frames for a restorative re-application of the Liquid Crystal solution by the artist.
The work in each of these series was created and exhibited in 1981.
